Is Your Student Retention Dropping?

Retention is one of the most important, yet most neglected, aspects of martial arts school management.  There are only two things necessary to build a good retention rate: preparation and a little bit of work.  The real key is understanding why students drop out.  There are always going to be those inevitable few that are not preventable.

Students leave due to relocations, medical problems, or other serious situations and most of them can’t be stopped.  However, those cases are the minority of drop-out situations.  The majority are the result of simple problems that could have been fixed had the master or instructor been aware of them and prevented them.

They are divided into three sections: sales, service and management.

  • Sales
    - Over Selling
    - Poor Trial Lesson
    - No Commitment from a New Student

  • Service
    - Lack of Interest
    - Burn Out
    - Frustration
    - General Dissatisfaction

  • Management

    - Switch Classes
    - Poor Facility
    - Poor Customer Service
